FEES & CANCELLATIONS:
Registration Fee:  A $250 non-refundable fee is charged at the end of the registration process. The fee covers:
- a one-year complimentary Traveler's membership in the UUPCC (or a year's extension if you are a current member)
- application processing, travel packet assembly & mailing,
- an “Impact fee” paid to either: the Unitarian Union of NE India (for India trips), the UU Church of the Philippines (for Philippines trips), or UK adjuticatories (for UK trips). [The UUPCC shares revenues and risks with the Hungarian Unitarian Church on trips to Transylvanian and Hungary so does not pay an "impact fee" on those trips.]
- The registration fee also helps defray UUPCC staff costs for our travel program.

Final Payment Fee:  Trip cost and due date is communicated at registration and will be due around 60-80 days before departure. The total trip fee must be paid by the final payment due date or UUPCC retains the right to cancel your registration.  Trip cost and due date is communicated at registration and will be due around 60-80 days before departure. The total trip fee must be paid by the final payment due date or UUPCC retains the right to cancel your registration.

Cancellation Fees:
*The UUPCC will refund the entire registration fee if the trip is cancelled due to low enrollment. Please do NOT purchase airline tickets until we confirm that the minimum number of travelers have registered for the trip.  If you cancel up to 60 days prior to the start of the pilgrimage, we refund the entire payment, less the registration fee, and less any non-recoverable transportation costs. If you cancel 60 - 30 days prior to the start of the pilgrimage, we refund of 50% of your total payment less the registration fee. If you cancel less than 30 days prior to the start of the pilgrimage, no refund will be given.
INDIA TRAVELERS EXCEPTION:  Because we must pay deposits and fees earlier for our Indian trip extensions, if you cancel an extension 120-90 days prior to start of the trip we will refund 50% (less the registration fee). If you cancel an extension less than 90 days prior, no refund will be given.

Insurance:  We strongly urge all travelers to purchase travel insurance that includes trip cancelation insurance as well as medical evacuation insurance. Many companies offer this such as Travel Guard and TravelSafe. You might use a web-based service such as Squaremouth.com to compare plans.

ROOMMATE CHOICES
NOTE: The UUPCC is not always able to accommodate travelers’ request for a roommate. In the event there isn’t a roommate available, travelers who requested a double will need to room alone and pay the single supplement fee.  The UUPCC discourages travelers from rooming with someone they don’t know. Snoring, differing evening and morning schedules, differing needs for quiet and companionship, and other issues can cause significant difficulties that are often heightened by the exhaustion and anxiety that may come with international travel. If you don’t have a roommate you know already lined up, please seriously consider purchasing a single supplement.

PASSPORTS & VISAS
Many countries require passports to be valid for six months beyond your intended return date. It if expires before then, you may be denied boarding or entry upon arrival at your destination and have to return straight home. To be safe, verify that your passport is valid for at least six months after your intended return date -- if the expiration date is uncomfortably close to the cutoff, make sure to renew it way ahead of your trip. Travelers may be denied entry into a country if they don't have blank pages in their passports to stamp. US and Canadian travelers are required to obtain a visa for travel to India. Visit https://uupcc.org/pilgrimages/obtaining-passports-visas for more information.

MOBILITY, MEDICAL AND DIETARY RESTRICTIONS ADVISORIES
Our pilgrimages will take you far from home and into a new environment. If you have mobility, medical and/or dietary concerns that you manage easily at home, you may find them challenging on a trip like this. Use the following information to help decide if this type of trip works for you.
Mobility Concerns:
Eastern & Central Europe in general and Romania in particular are not easy to navigate for people with moderate to severe mobility issues. This also applies to all trips in the Philippines and Northeast India. Entire sections (typically the most tourist-focused) of some cities such as Budapest, Prague, and Vienna are closed to motorized traffic. Many streets are cobblestone or gravel and sidewalks are broken and uneven. Some of the hotels we use do not have elevators. None of the B&Bs, dorms or guesthouses have them. Many of the castles (Peles, Bran & Vadjahunyad), walled citadels (Sighisoara), and fortress churches (Biertan) are built on many levels and are often located on hilltops which require an uphill walk of 5-10 minutes to reach.

Wheelchairs and rolling walkers will not work for you on these trips. Canes and/or walking sticks are OK if you can walk for 30 minutes, climb two flights of stairs, and get into and out of vehicles on your own. If you like to sit when the group stops, bring a cane that doubles as a folding stool. In general, your condition needs to be such that you can climb 2 flights of steps and walk for 20-30 minutes without stopping to rest. UUPCC Pilgrimage trips to Romania are rated on the Road Scholar scale at 3-4 depending upon your specific group’s itinerary.

All travelers must be able to:
- Walk for 30 minutes unassisted.
- Climb 2 flights of stairs.
- Use local transport -- and get into and out of a bus or van on your own.
- Carry your own luggage.
*If you are not sure that you are up to the trip after reading this section please contact your group organizer or email the UUPCC Travel Coordinator (travel@uupcc.org).

Medical Concerns:
Travelers should be in good overall health.  Many of the drugs, treatments, and standards of care that we take for granted in North America are unavailable on these trips. There will not be the same level of care available as in North America, and care might be far away from your location.  Bring any needed medications (refrigeration will not be available) and do not travel if you are unable to manage allergies to foods or the environment.

Dietary Restrictions:
Romania, Northeast India and the Philippines have diets that are heavy on meat, grains, and/or dairy. Gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan diets in particular can be difficult to accommodate. If you have a dietary restriction that is significantly threatening to your health, please consider not registering for this pilgrimage. If you have dietary needs that are not significantly threatening to your health, our pilgrimages may work for you. However, please be very specific in describing your dietary restrictions and needs when you register so we can evaluate our ability to help you meet your dietary needs. We need to have a clear and comprehensive understanding when you register so that we can give you an honest assessment of whether the pilgrimage will work for you and so we can plan well in advance with you to accommodate your needs. We cannot accommodate dietary restrictions and needs that we don’t know about in advance. If you have questions or doubts, please contact the UUPCC Travel Coordinator (travel@uupcc.org) before registering.

BE SAFE. PLEASE CONSIDER A DIFFERENT TYPE OF TRIP IF YOU:

  • Cannot meet the physical requirements listed above,
  • Have heart or other medical concerns that may require rapid treatment,
  • Have serious medical problems that require medication to be refrigerated,
  • Have severe allergic reactions to common foods or environmental conditions (dust, straw...), or
  • Have a very restricted diet for medical reasons.

Check the box to indicate you have read and agree to ALL OF THE ABOVE.
