WAIVER STATEMENT updated 7/17 (Please read and agree to waiver statement before you proceed):
Please read the following statements, which include (1) our Trip Cancelation Policy, and (2) our Mobility/Medical/DietaryTravel Advisory.
UUPCC TRIP CANCELATION POLICY
The $150 Trip Registration fee is due at registration. This registration fee will hold your place on the trip. Please do NOT purchase airfare until we confirm that the minimum number of travelers for your trip has been achieved.
Final payment is due 70 days before departure. The total trip cost must be paid before the payment due date or UUPCC retains the right to cancel your registration. If you cancel up to 60 days prior to the start of the pilgrimage, your entire payment will be refunded, less the registration fee, and less any non-recoverable transportation costs.
If you cancel 60 - 30 days prior to the start of the pilgrimage, you will receive a refund of 50% of your total payment less the registration fee.
If you cancel less than 30 days prior to the start of the pilgrimage, you will receive no refund.
We strongly urge you to purchase travel insurance that includes trip cancelation insurance as well as medical evacuation insurance. There are many companies that offer such insurance: Travel Guard and TravelSafe are two such services. You can also use a web-based service such as Squaremouth.com to compare plans.
MOBILITY, MEDICAL AND DIETARY RESTRICTIONS ADVICE
Before registering, please read these important advisories.
Our pilgrimages will take you far from home and into a new environment. If you have mobility, medical and/or dietary concerns that you manage easily at home, you may find them challenging on a trip like this. Here's some information to help you decide if this type of trip works for you.
Eastern & Central Europe in general and Romania in particular are not easy to navigate for people with moderate to severe mobility issues. This also applies to all trips in the Philippines and Northeast India. Entire sections (typically the most tourist-focused) of some cities such as Budapest, Prague, and Vienna are closed to motorized traffic. Many streets are cobblestone or gravel and sidewalks are broken and uneven. Some of the hotels we use do not have elevators. None of the B&Bs, dorms or guesthouses have them. Many of the castles (Peles, Bran & Vadjahunyad), walled citadels (Sighisoara), and fortress churches (Biertan) are built on many levels and are often located on hilltops which require an uphill walk of 5-10 minutes to reach.
Wheelchairs and rolling walkers will not work for you on these trips. Canes and/or walking sticks are OK if you can walk for 30 minutes, climb two flights of stairs, and get into and out of vehicles on your own. If you like to sit when the group stops, bring a cane that doubles as a folding stool.
In general your condition needs to be such that you can climb 2 flights of steps and walk for 20-30 minutes without stopping to rest. UUPCC Pilgrimage trips to Romania are rated on the Road Scholar scale at 3-4 depending upon your specific group’s itinerary.
If you are not sure that you are up to the trip after reading this section please contact your group organizer or email the UUPCC Travel Coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org).
All travelers must be able to:
- Walk for 30 minutes unassisted.
- Climb 2 flights of stairs.
- Use local transport -- and get into and out of a bus or van on your own.
- Carry your own luggage.
Many of the drugs, treatments, and standards of care that we take for granted in North America are unavailable on these trips. We will be traveling far from home. There will not be the same level of care available as in North America, and care might be far away from where you will be.
- Be in good overall health
- Bring any needed medications. Refrigeration will not be available.
- Be able to manage allergies to foods or to the environment.
BE SAFE. PLEASE CONSIDER A DIFFERENT TYPE OF TRIP IF YOU:
- Cannot meet the physical requirements listed above,
- Have heart or other medical concerns that may require rapid treatment,
- Have serious medical problems that require medication to be refrigerated,
- Have severe allergic reactions to common foods or environmental conditions (dust, straw...), or
- Have a very restricted diet for medical reasons.
- Dietary Restrictions
Romania, Northeast India and the Philippines have diets that are heavy on meat, grains, and/or dairy. Gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan diets in particular can be difficult to accommodate. If you have a dietary restriction that is significantly threatening to your health, please consider not registering for this pilgrimage. If you have dietary needs that are not significantly threatening to your health, our pilgrimages may work for you. However, please be very specific in describing your dietary restrictions and needs when you register so we can evaluate our ability to help you meet your dietary needs. We need to have a clear and comprehensive understanding when you register so that we can give you an honest assessment of whether the pilgrimage will work for you and so we can plan well in advance with you to accommodate your needs. We cannot accommodate dietary restrictions and needs that we don’t know about in advance. If you have questions or doubts, please contact the UUPCC Travel Coordinator (email@example.com) before registering.
Don't take a chance! If you have any mobility or medical concerns, please email the UUPCC Travel Coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org) before you sign up.
Please check the box below indicating you have read and agree to the trip cancellation policy and the mobility/medical/dietary restrictions advisory.
